PRESS RELEASE: HOUSE APPROVES POLICE “REFORM” BILL

Author: Robert Rabe

On March 3, 2021, the House of Representatives passed a bill titled the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. This bill, among other things, would:

  • Ban Choke and Carotid Holds
  • Ban No-knock Warrants
  • End Qualified Immunity for Law Enforcement Officers
  • Fund the Use of Body Cameras
  • Establish a Police Misconduct Registry
  • Change the Police Prosecution Standard from “Wilfulness” to “Recklessness”.
The 220-212 vote was mostly along party lines, (because one Republican representative
admitted he pushed the wrong button). Last year, the House passed a similar version of
the bill, but it failed in the Republican-controlled Senate. This year, Senate Democrats will
have to sway at least 10 Republican members for the bill to pass.

of this bill, and other state and federal legislation related to law enforcement.
